ADAM S. GUMSON, Principal Attorney
Adam S. Gumson, Principal Attorney for JUPITER LAW CENTER, was named among Palm Beach Illustrated‘s Top Lawyers based on recommendations by his peers in the area of Trusts/Estates. Adam is proud of his standing with his peers in the community. He also takes pride that his firm has the feel of an old school neighborhood law firm whose attorneys and staff know their clients personally.
After graduating from Duke University (1988) and the University of Florida College of Law (with Honors, 1991), Adam spent just enough time with a large commercial litigation law firm to know that the stuffy “big time” law firm atmosphere wasn’t for him. In 1992, Adam joined his father, Richard P. Gumson, at JUPITER LAW CENTER with the goal of building a comfortable neighborhood practice which wasn’t stiff and sterile, but still produced the work product and results of those “other” type of law firms.
The firm originally operated as a general practice office which handled a wide variety of legal issues, including the main areas of the firm today (Estate and Business Planning, Probate/Guardianship,, Family Law and Real Estate as well as a number of other areas (Personal Injury, Corporations, Bankruptcy, Immigration, Litigation and Criminal Law). As a young attorney, Adam enjoyed the incredible diversity of a General Practice and still to this day serves as his clients’ “quarterback” for all of their legal issues, referring clients to capable colleagues (and/or other industries) in areas that he doesn’t handle.
Over the years, Adam recognized that the old-school family-operated law firms (and other businesses) gave way to the “big box” movement where service and personality were replaced by metrics and dollar signs, and vowed that JUPITER LAW CENTER would be different by remaining warm and personal. He did not turn away clients who could not afford full representation, or those who wanted to serve as their own counsel but needed a bit of direction, instead offering various options to assist, whether it was having them pay for a single consultation or only the preparation or review of a letter or a proposal. This desire to help at whatever level the client wanted or could afford filled a missing niche in the legal landscape and is one of the key reasons that JUPITER LAW CENTER has grown over the years. It is no accident that Adam and the other attorneys and staff at JUPITER LAW CENTER, are proud to honor and carry out the firm’s mission statement:
Providing Peace of Mind by Solving Problems with Integrity and Compassion
He particularly likes helping those intimidated by the thought of hiring an attorney and enjoys that sometimes he is the first lawyer the client has ever retained. Adam has a way of boiling down the jargon into comprehensible concepts, helping to make sense of legal theory and the way the Court system works.
Adam is a member of the Florida Bar and the Palm Beach County Bar Association and the former President of the North County Bar Association as well as a number of business networking groups.
Adam has been and still is deeply involved in both legal and community activities including coaching a JUPITER LAW CENTER sponsored JTAA basketball team, lecturing to civic groups and on local Radio programs and teaching the Adult Division course at Jupiter High School entitled “Law for the Layman – Everyday Information You Should Know“. He believes that his involvement, which he started when he joined JUPITER LAW CENTER in 1992 and continues to this day, has given him insight into the pulse of the community, enabling him to better serve his clients. On a personal note, Adam is a Jupiter resident, married to Lissa since 1999 and they have three children (daughters, Ava and Lilly, and son, Zane). Adam is a fervent basketball “junkie” (playing, coaching and watching), golf hacker and old movie buff.
